Heads-down display
So Microsoft has this new phone and this new ad. Classically clueless Microsoft. I just imagine Steve Jobs watching that and laughing so hard that he cries.
But I digress. What's interesting is that they're highlighting a real problem. They have no solution for it (except making their phone boring?), but there could be a solution. I call it the "heads-down display" (see HUD). An HDD in this case would be simple. Put a little postage stamp-sized display on the phone (or steal space on the main screen). Then put a little proximity detector (radar, sonar, whatever). Show nearby obstacles as dots on the HDD. Then you don't have to look up, and you won't run into things.
