Memo-inator

Call a number. Start talking. Everything that you say gets recorded and plopped as a WAV/MP3 file on a website. Use it for notes to yourself, surreptitiously recording a conversation with a police officer, or whatever. I'm gonna email Paul Tyma (Mr. Mailinator).

Maya, that's close, but it's not quite the same. drop.io requires setup in advance. I was thinking something more like Mailinator, where you can come up with an email address on the spot.

With memo-inator/phone-inator/whatever, you wouldn't have to set anything up in advance. You'd just call. You could either pick an arbitrary mailbox when you call in, or it could automatically set one up based on the number you were calling from. Or both. Whatever.

The point is that when you most want to use this you might not be in a position to set up an account. Like if you've just gotten pulled over for Driving While Brown.

Is that not http://jott.com/ ?

It is not. Jott.com requires a signup in advance. It does not follow the lightweight mailinator model.

Most cell phones today have a built-in voice recorder function if you're most concerned about immediacy. It's pretty easy to transfer mp3s from your phone to sd card and/or online storage.

That being said, it doesn't look like too far a leap from services like drop.io and jott to your model.

Yeah, I know about the phone memo feature. I don't know how easy it is to access, though.

Drop.io and Jott clearly could do it technically. The issue is the attitude. The Mailinator approach is not something a lot of people really get.
